Arts Corner: Lake Braddock Alumni to Perform at St. Jude's Benefit Concert, Annie the Musical

Whether it’s music, art or dance that you’re into, there’s a good chance you’ll find a local event or activity in Burke that will appeal to your creative side.

Here’s a rundown of some of the arts-related events in the Burke-area this weekend.

1. Get an early start to the weekend with a concert for a good cause: A group of alumni from Lake Braddock Secondary will perform Thursday night at the 2nd Annual Musical Benefit Concert for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at the Jewish Community Center, located at 8900 Little River Turnpike in Fairfax. Tickets are $7 at the door and all proceeds go to benefit St. Jude’s.
2. Take a musical trip across the globe: Preschoolers ages 8 months old to 4 years old can enjoy listening to music from around the world at the Burke Centre Library on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m.
3. The sun will come out during the City of Fairfax Theatre Company’s performance of Annie the Musical. The show will feature a special guest as part of their cast this weekend: Sen. Chap Petersen (D-34th). Petersen will play President Theodore Roosevelt alongside two full casts that include an adorable set of 4-year-old twins. 
4. The NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra will take the stage at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for the Braddock Nights Summer Concert Series. The orchestra has performed a variety of music at local events across Fairfax County since 1994.
5. If the orchestra’s not your scene, Tom Principato and his band will perform a couple of blues tunes, including some from his latest album, over at Royal Lake Park in Fairfax at 7:30 p.m.
