Although the DC celebration is on Saturday, the Swiss Bakery celebrated Swiss National Day Thursday at its Springfield location.

Every Aug. 1, the bakery serves up what’s called Swiss National Day Bread or First of August Bread, and sells it in stores and online.

“It is a zopf bread, but rather than baking it in the usual braid, it is a round loaf with a Swiss cross cut into the top and a small paper Swiss flag,” said Mary Pat with the bakery.

The bread is one of the many desserts the bakery will prepare for Saturday’s event.

There will be plenty of Swiss food on hand at the event, as well as raffles, a moonbounce, traditional Swiss games and more.
