Jefferson-Madison Regional Library seeks teen submissions for creative arts magazine (29news.com) — Charlottesville-area teens ages 11 to 18 can now submit short writing and 2-D artwork to the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s Inkling magazine for a chance to see their work in print. Submissions are open to youth in the JMRL service area, and librarians hope the project draws more local teens into branches as a creative “third space.”

2. UVA extends admissions offers to the first 1225 Class of 2030 applicants (cvillerightnow.com) — The University of Virginia in Charlottesville has offered early decision admission to 1,225 Class of 2030 applicants, including 776 Virginians, from more than 5,000 candidates. Another 81 students were admitted via spring transfer, with early action decisions due by Feb. 15 and regular decisions by April 1.

3. Virginia's fall fire season ends (pcpatriot.com) — Charlottesville residents are being reminded that even though Virginia’s fall fire season has officially ended, wildfire risk remains high, especially with much of the state still abnormally dry. State forestry officials, speaking from Charlottesville, credit firefighters with protecting millions in property and urge locals to delay outdoor burning in drought areas and follow strict safety steps when handling debris fires or live Christmas trees.

4. Charlottesville Blues Football Club holding open tryouts (29news.com) — Aspiring soccer players in and around Charlottesville can sign up now for the Charlottesville Blues FC 2026 open tryouts at UVA’s Carr’s Hill Field on December 27. Coaches from UVA’s men’s and women’s programs will be watching as players ages 16 and up compete for spots on the club’s men’s and women’s professional teams.
