Lewis Mountain neighborhood property has new owner after development fell through (c-ville.com) — A failed townhouse project on Alderman Road is highlighting how Charlottesville’s new zoning code can still complicate small-scale housing development. After repeated denials, the original builder sold the Lewis Mountain property, while city staff and the Planning Commission now prepare modest zoning code fixes that could shape future projects across Charlottesville.

Virginia releases school accreditation report with new ranking system (nbc12.com) — Charlottesville and Albemarle County schools are all fully accredited this year, with Albemarle earning some of the state’s highest rankings and Charlottesville City Schools nearing key state benchmarks. 4. UVA physician discusses inclusion of self-tests in screening guidelines for cervical cancer (29news.com) — A UVA physician in Charlottesville helped write new American Cancer Society guidelines that now allow at-home and in-office self-tests for HPV, the virus that causes most cervical cancers. He says self-testing could especially help women in rural and underserved areas stay up to date on screening, while still recommending clinician-collected samples as the preferred option for many patients.
   

5. Chief Kochis appointed to Spanberger's transition team (cvillerightnow.com) — Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis is serving on Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger’s transition committee for Public Safety and Homeland Security Policy, bringing local perspectives into statewide planning. He says the diverse group of chiefs, sheriffs, and experts is focused on practical issues like regional police academy funding, mental health, and gun violence, not partisan politics.
