ROSSLYN, VA — German publisher Axel Springer SE is in talks to purchase Rosslyn-based news outlet Politico, according to news reports. The deal would formalize the multiyear relationship between the two publishers.

Politico, which has offices on Wilson Boulevard in Rosslyn, teamed up with Axel Springer in 2014 to launch a European edition based in Brussels as a 50/50 joint venture, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In a memo to Politico employees, publisher Robert Allbritton said the company was not going to comment on the negotiations and the Politico might eventually combine with Politico Europe into a single publication.
