9 Streets Scheduled For Repaving Over Next 2 Weeks In Alexandria
Street resurfacing continues with more streets scheduled for the next two weeks along with continued sidewalk and alley maintenance.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Repaving season continues in the City of Alexandria with nine streets scheduled for the next two weeks.
The city maintains over 561 lane miles of roads and typically repaves about 50 each year through mid-November. Roads are prioritized using a pavement condition index score, which is based on the road condition and factors like volume and type of traffic, planned utility work, and cost. Work begins with curb and gutter repair work and making upgrades for Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb access ramps.
From July 25 to Aug. 5, the following streets are scheduled for repaving:

- South Gordon Street (from Duke Street to Wheeler Avenue)
- South Ingram Street (from Duke Street to Vermont Avenue)
- Venable Avenue (from South Jordan Street to South Iris Street)
- Usher Avenue, Garden Drive, Vermont Avenue
- Dulaney Street (from Duke Street to end)
- Diagonal Road (entire length, base repairs)
- Hume Avenue (from Commonwealth Avenue to Richmond Highway)
- Second Street (from North Royal Street to North Pitt Street)
- West Braddock Road (from King Street to Russell Road)
In addition, the city is continuing sidewalk maintenance on King Street between Russell Road and Janneys Lane, West Braddock Road from King Street to Russell Road, North Quaker Lane from Duke Street to Janneys Lane and Hancock Avenue from West Braddock Road to the end. Alley maintenance continues on West Reed Road between Evans Lane and Wilson Avenue and Westview Terrace between Janneys Lane to Hilltop Terrace, as well as eastbound Duke Street and Van Dorn Street.
Repaving happens on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and involves heavy equipment that can cause noise. Some work may be done overnight on heavily traveled roads. Roads will reopen for overnight parking and traffic at the end of each work day. Residents on affected streets will receive advance notice through project signs or letters.

Access to the impacted streets will be limited during repaving work, but crews will let local traffic through to access driveways. Temporary no parking signs will also be posted.
The schedule is dependent on weather, equipment and other factors. The latest repaving schedule is provided on the city's website.
