Alexandria Aces Bow Out of Cal Ripken League Playoffs

Aces lose twice on Friday, ending best season in franchise history.

The Alexandria Aces were eliminated from the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League playoffs on Friday, ending the most successful season in team history.

The Aces fell to the Baltimore Redbirds 7-5 at home Friday afternoon and followed with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the Bethesda Big Train in the evening in the double-elimination tournament.

A win in either game would have put the Aces in the league championship game.

The Aces finished the regular season with a 27-17 record, the best in team history. They finished second in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League standings and earned a first-round playoff bye.

The Aces roster consisted of college players from around the country. The Cal Ripken League is a premier collegiate wooden bat summer league with 12 community-supported teams based in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. The league draws talent from top Division I, II, and III baseball programs nationwide.
