Alexandria Election Results 2023: Incumbents Win, Dems Claim Majority In House, Senate
Democrats retained the Senate and gained the House as City of Alexandria representatives were re-elected.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Based on unofficial vote tallies, Democrats are projected winners in races for Virginia House and Senate in the City of Alexandria as the party gained control of the Virginia House and kept the Senate. In the 39th Senate District race, Democratic state Sen. Adam Ebbin claimed victory over Republican Sophia Moshasha. Del. Alfonso Lopez claimed victory in the 3rd House District race, and Dels. Charniele Herring and Elizabeth Bennett-Parker were unopposed in the 4th and 5th House Districts, respectively.
City of Alexandria voters decided races for Virginia House 3rd District, Virginia House 4th District, Virginia House 5th District and Senate 39th District. Control of the Virginia House and Senate was up for grabs, and Democrats secured a majority in both. Republicans currently have a majority in the House, while Democrats have a majority in the Senate.

Alexandria's Virginia House and Senate delegation celebrated their wins with Sen. Tim Kaine at Del Ray's Pork Barrel BBQ Tuesday night.

"Congrats to @AdamEbbin @C_Herring @EBPforVA & @Lopez4VA," Mayor Justin Wilson tweeted. "Thanks for giving Alexandria a strong voice in Richmond!"
Ebbin shared a statement with social media followers in response to his re-election.
"Thank you to the voters of the 39th Senate District!" Ebbin shared. "With your support, I will continue to fight for progressive values like standing up for the environment, defending reproductive freedom, and fighting for our democracy and equality."
All City of Alexandria voters could cast ballots in the 39th Senate District race between Democratic incumbent Ebbin and Republican Sophia Moshasha. With all precincts reporting in the City of Alexandria, Arlington County and Fairfax County, Ebbin has 78.12 percent of votes, while Moshasha has 21.56 percent.
In the 3rd House District, Democratic incumbent Lopez faced Independent Major Mike Webb. Alexandria precincts in the 3rd House District are 202 George Mason School, 203 Charles Barrett Center, 204 Blessed Sacrament Church, and 206 Alexandria City High School. With all precincts in Arlington County and Alexandria, Lopez had 81.45 percent of votes.
In the 4th House District, Democratic Del. Herring was unopposed. Precincts in the 4th House District are 208 NOVA Arts Center, 209 James K. Polk School, 210 Ferdinand T. Day School, 303 Beatley Library, 305 John Adams School, 306 William Ramsay Center, 307 South Port Apartments and 309 Olympus Condo. Herring has 93.09 percent of the vote with all precincts reporting in Alexandria and Fairfax County.
In the 5th House District, Democratic Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker was unopposed. Precincts in the 5th House District are 101 Ladrey Senior Building, 102 City Hall, 103 Lyles Crouch School, 104 Durant Center, 105 Lee Center, 106 Cora Kelly-Chick Armstrong Center, 107 Mt. Vernon Center, 108 George Washington School, 109 Fire Dept. Headquarters, 110 Charles Houston Center, 111 Potomac Yard, 201 Naomi L. Brooks School, 205 G.W. Masonic Temple, 207 Temple Beth El Synagogue, 211 AlexRenew, 302 Patrick Henry Center, 304 Tucker School and 308 Cameron Station. Bennett-Parker has 91.27 percent of the vote with all precincts reporting in Alexandria.
Unofficial election results are coming in through the Virginia Department of Elections. Tuesday's vote tallies do not include provisional ballots. Results are unofficial until certified by the state election board in the coming days.
