Powerball Ticket Bought In Alexandria Wins $50K

While no one has yet won the Powerball jackpot estimated at $1.5 billion, a ticket from Alexandria has a runner-up prize.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An Alexandria Powerball ticket claimed a $50,000 second runner-up prize as the jackpot remains up for grabs for an estimated $1.5 billion.

Five tickets from Virginia won $50,000 prizes in Wednesday's drawing, including one bought at Tiger Market and Bakery at 3903 Mt. Vernon Avenue in Alexandria. The $50,000 prize is won when a ticket matches four of five numbers plus the Powerball number.

Other $50,000 tickets in Virginia were from Food Lion at 4092 Lankford Highway in Exmor, Safeway at 3043 Nutley Street in Fairfax, Fas Mart at 4690 Pouncey Tract Road in Glen Allen and Smoketown Shell at 15550 Neabsco Mills Road in Woodbridge.

There were no Virginia winners Wednesday for the $1 million runner-up prize, which is given for tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball number.

The estimated cash value of the $1.5 billion jackpot is $686.5 million.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The chances of matching all numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338, while the odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25. Powerball tickets are available at Virginia Lottery retailers and online.
