Alexandria School Board January 2024 Special Election: How To Vote
Early voting is kicking off for the Alexandria School Board seat vacated by Willie Bailey. Here's how to vote.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Voters in Alexandria's School Board District A can now vote in the Jan. 9 special election for one of the district's School Board seats. Early voting started Monday for the special election, which will decide the race to replace Willie Bailey, who resigned effective Nov. 20.
Only voters in School Board District A can vote in the special election. That includes the precincts of 101 Old Town North (formerly Ladrey), 102 City Hall, 103 Lyles Crouch School, 104 Durant Center, 105 Lee Center, 106 Cora Kelly - "Chick" Armstrong Center, 107 Mount Vernon Center, 108 George Washington School, 109 Fire Dept. Headquarters, 110 Charles Houston Center and 111 Potomac Yard.
Candidates include Gina L. Baum and Tim J. Beaty. A sample ballot is available for voters.

Early in-person voting happens at the Alexandria Office of Voter Registration & Elections (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA). The deadline to vote early in person will be 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6. An acceptable form of ID is required for in-person voting.
Here are the hours from Dec. 11 to Jan. 6:

- Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 30, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 2, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
- Saturday, Jan. 6, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Closed Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1
Mail-in ballots may be requested from the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29. You can submit an application at vote.elections.virginia.gov, download an application online or call the Office of Voter Registration & Elections at 703-746-4050. Ballots for voters who have requested to be on the permanent absentee ballot list will be mailed on Monday, Dec. 11.
Completed ballots must be returned to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, or postmarked by January 9 and received in the office by noon on Friday, Jan. 12.
Aside from the mail, ballots may be returned at all polling places in School Board District A on Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. A secure outdoor drop box under video surveillance is available 24/7 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in front of the Office of Voter Registration & Elections.
The deadline for voter registration or updating your address is Wednesday, Dec. 27. Same-day registration is available from Dec. 28 to Jan. 9. If you're voting in person on election day, head to your polling place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9. An acceptable form of ID is required for in-person voting.
