Alexandria Schools Make Weather Decision For Dec. 15

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria City Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday due to inclement weather starting overnight.

Students in PreK to 12th grade will report to school two hours later than the normally scheduled time. Morning Early Childhood Special Education programs will start two hours later and dismiss one hour later than usual. Afternoon Early Childhood Special Education opens one hour later than normal and will be dismissed at the regular time.

Essential ACPS personnel will report at the regular time and should contact their supervisor for direction. This includes building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff. All non-essential personnel will report two hours later than normal.

ACPS will continue to monitor weather conditions and may change the decision. Any change would be announced by 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Northern Virginia region. The advisory begins at 1 a.m. Thursday and will continue until 1 p.m. in Alexandria. Freezing rain is expected with accumulation between a glaze and one-tenth of an inch. Forecasters believe the Thursday morning commute will have hazardous conditions.
