Alexandria Street Repaving Program To Resume, Starting With 7 Streets

During the first two weeks of repaving, the city is planning work on seven streets.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria's road repaving program will resume Wednesday, June 15 starting with seven streets in the first two weeks.

The city maintains over 561 lane miles of road and typically repaves about 50 each year. Roads are prioritized using a pavement condition index score, which is based on the road condition and factors like volume and type of traffic, planned utility work, and cost. The work begins with curb and gutter repair work and making upgrades for Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb access ramps.

Here are the streets planned for repaving in the first two weeks:

  • Lynhaven Drive (from Wilson Avenue to End)
  • Evans Lane (Richmond Highway to East Reed Avenue)
  • Montrose Avenue (from East Raymond Avenue to Richmond Highway)
  • Terrett Avenue (from East Mt Ida to East Randolph Avenue)
  • Stewart Avenue (from Mount Vernon Avenue to East Randolph Avenue)
  • Executive Avenue (from Kentucky Avenue to Mount Vernon Avenue)
  • Alabama Avenue (from Kentucky Avenue to Carolina Place)

Repaving work typically happens between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will involve heavy equipment that can cause noise. Roads will reopen for overnight parking and traffic at the end of each work day. Residents on affected streets will receive advance notice through project signs or letters.

Access to the impacted streets will be limited during repaving work, but crews will let local traffic through to access driveways. Temporary no parking signs will also be posted. Some work may be done overnight on heavily traveled roads.
