Alexandria Seeks Community Input on New Police Chief Search

Police Chief Earl L. Cook announced his retirement after more than 37 years of service to the City of Alexandria, effective Oct. 1.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is working with the City of Alexandria to conduct a comprehensive, nationwide search for a new police chief. The process will incorporate a critical review of information from a wide variety of sources, including input from the community, to help identify the most important skills and capacities for the next chief executive of the police department.

IACP will facilitate two community meetings and an online survey to gather feedback on perceived challenges, qualities and top priorities for the new chief. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, July 26, 7–9 p.m., Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. The second meeting will be held Wednesday, July 27, 7-9 p.m., Charles E Beatley Jr. Central Library, 5005 Duke St. The online survey is available through July 29.
