ALEXANDRIA, VA — An off-duty DC police officer led Virginia State Police on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Alexandria last Wednesday, according to media reports.
Peter McCauley, a 25-year-old Alexandria resident who has been with DC's Metropolitan Police Department since June 2020, had been driving 95 mph in a 55 mph area on southbound Interstate 395, the Washington Post and other outlets reported. A state trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued and exited I-395 at Seminary Road in Alexandria.
After state police say McCauley drove through a red light, the vehicle struck a Honda Civic. The crash caused McCauley's vehicle to strike a wall, and the Honda hit a wall and light pole.
