An Election with a Photo Finish
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will hold its annual photo contest featuring a political theme.

From the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria:
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (August 5, 2016)--This year’s national election has inspired the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) to present “Elect-a-Pet 2016,” a political spin on our already spirited annual photo competition. Pet candidates belonging to Canine, Feline, and Small Animals parties will engage in a political race to secure their name on their party’s ballot, each vying for the esteemed office of Alexandria’s 2017 Animal of the Year. At the conclusion of the election, the AWLA will publish a full-sized calendar celebrating all of the candidates put forward. The photo contest is one of the AWLA’s most important annual fundraisers, encouraging donations critical to helping local animals in need.
The winning Pet Elect receives a grand prize of a professional session with Dirty Paw Photography. In addition to the winner receiving three complimentary prints, images from this session will be selected for the front and back covers of the calendar.

Running Mates--winning first, second and third places--will receive a mini-session with one of the shelter’s professional photographers, complimentary prints, full-month spreads inside the calendar, and more. Members of the Cabinet will also be featured in the calendar as having placed fourth place and beyond. Majority and Minority Leaders will also claim calendar space.
The fee to enter your favorite furry candidate is $30 (one entry per photo). Votes cost $1 each. Honor a special pet or occasion by reserving a blank grid space with your pet’s photo for $300. Submissions and voting begin at 8 a.m. on August 15, 2016, and continue until 8 p.m. on September 15. For more details visit the AlexandriaAnimals.org calendar.
