ALEXANDRIA, VA — A popular DC area eatery will be expanding to Alexandria at the upcoming redevelopment of Oakville Triangle.

Founding Farmers will open in summer 2024 at Stonebridge’s Oakville project along Richmond Highway, according to parent company Farmers Restaurant Group. Founding Farmers is a DC-founded restaurant from owners Dan Simons, Michael Vucurevic and the North Dakota Farmers Union. The Alexandria location will join five others in the DC region and one in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

"Our DMV guests have been warm, welcoming, and so supportive since we started out almost 15 years ago," said Simons in a statement. "We’re excited to be bringing Founding Farmers to Alexandria with our farmer-owned ethos and flavors."

The restaurant will lease a 9,200-square-foot space on the first floor of a new seven-story building at Swann Avenue and Richmond Highway in the Oakville development. It will include seating for about 245 people, a full bar, an outdoor patio. The restaurant will be open daily, including holidays.

"Guests will find their favorites and be introduced to new innovations and explorations with food, beverage, and design," said Simons. "We’ll be offering the neighborhood breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, along with our morning First Bake grab & go program for when you need something fast. Our goal is to always meet our guests where they are."

The four-block redevelopment of Oakville Triangle by Stonebridge will include ground floor retail, townhouses, multifamily residential buildings, and the Inova Oakville at Potomac Yard Healthplex.

According to Stonebridge, the first block has two subblocks: one with multifamily residential units, retail and below-grade parking and another with the Inova Healthplex. The second block will have a multifamily residential building with retail and below-grade parking. The third block will keep an existing self-storage building and add a new 0.75-acre park. The last block will be home to townhouses.

"Oakville has been designed to create a community and realize the tremendous walking connectivity between Del Ray and Potomac Yard," said Douglas Firstenberg, principal of Stonebridge. "Having Founding Farmers anchor our retail area fits perfectly into our vision, and the wide range of offerings will be amazing for our residents and the neighborhood."
