Key Dates To Know For November 2022 General Election In Alexandria
The only 2022 election in Alexandria will be the 8th congressional district as redrawn maps take effect with midterm elections.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Early voting will begin Friday, Sept. 23 for the Nov. 8 general election in Alexandria, according to the Office of Voter Registrations and Elections.
The only election for City of Alexandria voters will be the 8th congressional district race. Rep. Don Beyer (D-Alexandria) faces Republican Karina Lipsman. The district, which includes all of Alexandria, Arlington County, City of Falls Church and part of Fairfax County, is considered solid Democrat in the 2022 Cook Political Report's House race ratings.
Beyer is serving his fourth term as the representative for the 8th congressional district and previously served as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein under President Obama's administration and lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1998. He is the chair of the Congress Joint Economic Committee and a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and House Committee on Science Space and Technology. In June, Beyer defeated Democratic primary opponent Victoria Virasingh with 77 percent of the vote.

Lipsman, the Republican challenger, came to the U.S. as a Ukrainian refugee during her childhood. Now a U.S. citizen, Lipsman has worked for 14 years in national defense and intelligence. She was chosen as a candidate during a May Republican convention.
Redrawn congressional district maps will take effect with the 2022 election. The 8th congressional district still contains all of Arlington County, City of Alexandria and City of Falls Church, but the boundaries will be adjusted in Fairfax County.
