ALEXANDRIA, VA -- A heartbreaking story with a happy ending, about a dog who started out life at a meat farm in South Korea but ended up in a happy home in Alexandria, was featured in a post that went viral last week on the Facebook page of Humane Society International.

Nearly 9,000 people read about the dog Minnow's journey from a meat farm and eventually into the arms of Abbie Hubbard, the deputy director of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Humane Society International said in its post last week on Facebook:

Rescued by HSI in 2015, Minnow has come a long way since her days at a dog meat farm in South Korea. From living in a barren, rusty cage to now spending her time hiking, snuggling, and playing – she’s certainly not missing her old life!

Here's what Abbie had to say about what adopting Minnow has meant to her:

"I love Minnow more than words could ever express. I think we both share a love for other beings so I am grateful that she gets to come to work with me everyday and help other animals at the shelter waiting for homes. One of her favorite things to do is greet visitors who come to the shelter!

The dogs on meat farms in South Korea are near and dear to my heart. I think it is so important that Minnow and I bring awareness to this terrible tragedy and I hope someday this cruel practice will be banned and end for good. At the same time, we have so many animals in shelters just like Minnow - full of love - waiting to be adopted. I'm just as passionate about helping all animals find their loving family and a safe place to call home! Minnow reminds me to never give up working for animals. I love her joy for life. It inspires me everyday!"
