Stolen Vehicle Pursuit In Alexandria Leads To State Trooper Injury

State police say a state trooper vehicle struck a guardrail when a stolen vehicle driver rammed into it during a pursuit.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A state trooper was injured in a pursuit that originated with a stolen vehicle in Alexandria Monday, according to Virginia State Police.

Around 11:47 p.m. Monday, the state trooper was alerted about a stolen vehicle in the City of Alexandria. The state trooper tried to stop the stolen vehicle. The driver did not stop, leading to a pursuit, according to state police.

The pursuit went onto southbound Route 1, then the eastbound Capital Beltway. The state trooper and another responding trooper tried to stop the vehicle on the Beltway, but police said the driver's vehicle rammed the trooper's vehicle. The trooper's vehicle truck a guardrail near the 3A exit, which is the Route 210 exit across the Wilson bridge in Maryland.

The state trooper was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released Tuesday morning.

The pursuit had continued into Maryland, where Maryland State Police and U.S. Park Police pursued the vehicle and arrested the suspect. Patch has reached out to Maryland State Police for details on the pursuit in Maryland and suspect's arrest. Charges are pending in Virginia.
