Wounded Officer Laboy Begins Therapy

Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy began undergoing occupational therapy Wednesday in a Washington hospital, one week after being shot in the head outside Lyles Crouch Traditional Academy in Old Town.

Laboy’s wife, Suzanne, announced the news on a Caring Bridge website created to make donations to the Caring Bridge organization and to share her comments about her husband's progress.

She wrote Wednesday afternoon:

“Occupational therapy just came into room. They actually had him sitting on edge of bed doing exercises. He put his arm around my waist and rubbed my back. No words yet but understands all. In due time! I'm reminded we are blessed.”

Earlier Wednesday, she wrote that Laboy had his breathing tube removed.

Donations that will go directly to Laboy's family are being accepted through the Alexandria Police Association.

Old Town restaurant Virtue Feed & Grain and the Alexandria Police Foundation are hosting a fundraiser for Officer Peter Laboy on Sunday.

On Saturday, 10 percent of the proceeds at Port City Brewing Company's tasting room will be donated to Laboy's family.
