ALEXANDRIA, VA — Metro's new technology hub in Alexandria was officially opened with a ribbon cutting Friday.

The Integrated Command and Communications Center, a 14-story building near the Eisenhower Ave Metro station at 2401 Mill Road, will support more than 1400 Metro employees. In addition, it will host a data center, cybersecurity operations, bus and rail video teams, communications, and administrative support for Metro.

"The [Metro Integrated Command and Communications Center] is a world class control center that brings our rail, bus, security, and maintenance operations together in one place for the first time and our customer communications teams," said Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. "Instead of managing service from separate control centers, we can coordinate together in real-time, working as a unified team to provide customers with clear, consistent messaging."

The Alexandria building is the last of three new buildings under Metro's plan to consolidate its 10 office buildings. Metro's old headquarters, the Jackson Graham Building in DC, was sold as Metro planned new buildings closer to operations in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Earlier in 2023, Metro opened a new building at the New Carrollton Metro Station in Maryland. Last year, it moved from the prior DC headquarters to a new headquarters at L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station. Long-term revenue for the consolidation was supported by Metro leasing its former headquarters for development.

For the latest building, Metro selected the Eisenhower Avenue Metro area, where an underutilized property was available. Along with Metro's new building, the neighborhood has seen substantial commercial and residential growth in the last few years.

"Metro is a key partner throughout the region, and we are proud they will call Alexandria home," said Mayor Justin Wilson. "The hundreds of employees who will be here will find the Eisenhower Corridor is a great area where they can work, live, and play."

The new Alexandria building has LEED Gold certification for sustainable building design and features public artwork called "Tunnel Vision" inspired by Metro's underground tunnels.
