Next Drug Take Back Day Planned In Alexandria During October
Residents can safely throw out unwanted medications at four locations around Alexandria for Drug Take Back Day.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — If you have expired or unused prescription drugs sitting around in your home, Saturday's Drug Take Back Day in Alexandria is a chance to get rid of them.
Drug Take Back Day will be held at four City of Alexandria locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted. Needles are not accepted at the locations. The service is free and anonymous.

- The Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray (2204 Mt. Vernon Ave.)
- Alexandria Police Department Headquarters (3600 Wheeler Ave.)
- First Baptist Church parking lot (2932 King St.)
- Alexandria Fire Station 210 (5255 Eisenhower Ave.)
The purpose of the twice-a-year is to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs so they don't get misused or abused.
If you can't make it, year-round permanent drop boxes are available. The permanent drop box at Neighborhood Pharmacy, 2204 Mt Vernon Ave, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Inova Alexandria Hospital has a drop box in the visitor center lobby typically open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and it accepts needles and syringes. A drop box at Alexandria Police Department Headquarters is available 24/7 inside the front entrance; visitors should ring the bell for access.

In Alexandria, residents can also request a Deterra drug disposal pouch to be mailed or pick up free drug disposal kits.
