VP Nominee J.D. Vance's Alexandria Home Gets Security Perimeter, Secret Service Presence
A park in Alexandria closed as the U.S. Secret Service established a security perimeter near Donald Trump running mate J.D. Vance's home.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The presence of a vice presidential candidate has led to increased security presence in an Alexandria neighborhood.
J.D. Vance, the vice presidential pick for former President Donald Trump's GOP campaign, lives in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood. The largely blue Alexandria electorate has been familiar with Vance's home since the Republican U.S. senator bought it in 2023. Now, the vice presidential nominee's presence has led the U.S. Secret Service to set up a security perimeter.
As of Sunday, the City of Alexandria closed Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park, located at 1 and 7 E. Del Ray Ave., temporarily due to a request from the U.S. Secret Service. The unit block of East Del Ray Avenue between Commonwealth and Clyde Avenues is also being restricted to resident traffic only.

According to the city, East Del Ray residents can enter and leave with "minimal interruption from USSS or Alexandria Police Department."
Residents should expect a significant Secret Service presence in the area. The park perimeter is barricaded and monitored by law enforcement 24/7.

The city says on-street parking is not allowed on the unit block of East Del Ray Avenue or the east side of the 2200 block of Commonwealth Avenue. The Commonwealth Avenue travel lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks remain open.
The park remains closed until further notice.
