NORTHERN VIRGINIA — While Northern Virginia and D.C. get a break after a storm system brought gusty winds, rain and some instances of flooding, a similar storm is headed our way Friday before chances of snow next week.

Tuesday's storm brought several reports of flooding, including at the Alexandria waterfront, DC's southwest waterfront, southwest DC at the National Mall, Georgetown and Anacostia. The National Weather Service expects another round of strong winds and rain in the region Friday afternoon into the weekend, while the mountains could receive snow showers.

A flood watch has been issued for DC, Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area Friday evening to night. According to the National Weather Service, moderate to localized heavy rain is expected late Friday afternoon through the evening. Most will soak the region within three to six hours Friday evening. Localized heavy rain and grounds saturated from previous rain could flood streams, creeks and low-lying and urban areas, forecasters say.

On the flooding threat, the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang adds, "Flooding shouldn’t be a huge concern, but isolated instances are possible because the ground is so wet."

Next week, the National Weather Service said the "coldest air mass of the season" will enter, bringing a slight winter storm threat Tuesday and Tuesday night. A slight chance of snow and rain is forecast for Monday.
