'American Pickers' In DC, Virginia: How To Get On The Show

Collectors with a barn or basement full of clutter are in luck. The History Channel’s documentary series “American Pickers” wants to see and film your treasures in the D.C. area and Virginia in May. Show hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz will dig through barns, storage sheds and houses across D.C., West Virginia and Delaware for hidden gems and vintage items that may have been given up as junk, according to an announcement by the show's producers.

Photos: Alexandria's First Waterfront Hotel Opens

For Old Town Alexandria visitors, staying on the waterfront was not an option unless they knew a friend with a property. That has changed since Hotel Indigo, Alexandria's first waterfront hotel, opened May 3 at 220 South Union St. The hotel is LEED-certified and features five stories, 120 rooms and a terrace overlooking the Potomac River. Managed by InterContinental Hotels Group, the hotel mixes modern design elements with tributes to Old Town Alexandria's historical roots.

Removing Confederate Name Would Cost School $1M: Board Emails

A taxpayer watchdog group said it has found evidence that removing a Confederate general's name from a Fairfax County school would come with a big price tag. The name change of J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church is under consideration in a Fairfax County School Board working group. The Taxpayer Protection Alliance obtained emails in a FOIA request that revealed school board members met privately to discuss the name change, Fox5DC reported.

Felony Child Neglect Charges For Manassas Woman

A mother who apparently allowed her two young children to play in the street in the 8300 block of Sinclair Mill Road on May 2 was arrested the same day, according to Prince William County Police. Traci Michelle Sharp, 30, of the 8300 block of Jill Brenda Court, was charged with two counts of felony child neglect.
