Weekend Weather: Muggy, Stormy, Then a Cooler Work Week

The National Weather Service predicts the DC metro area will become a bit muggier this weekend, plus there's a good chance for stormy weather Sunday. But after that, look for cooler temperatures on the horizon.

Rain chances for Friday night are only around 10 percent, according to NWS. After the mugginess and storm chances on the weekend, Mother Nature is delivering sunny weather with highs in the low 80s Monday.

Here's a breakdown of what your weekend weather for Northern Virginia is looking like, according to the weather service:

• Saturday: Mostly sunny. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 90. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening...then mostly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
• Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms...mainly in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Lows in the upper 60s.
• Monday: Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predictions for possible storms Sunday:

"I think a semi-strong line of thunderstorms late in the afternoon is possible, sweeping across the region from west to east. Gusty winds, downpours and frequent lightning are all possible risks. Storms, some possibly strong, die down and move away."
