BURKE, VA — Early voting for the Dec. 9 special election in the Braddock District got underway on Friday, which was also when the first round of mail-in ballots were sent out to voters.

Three candidates are in the race to fill the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors: Kenneth Paul Balbuena (R), Carey Campbell (I), and Rachna Sizemore Heizer (D). The winner will complete the remainder of former Supervisor James Walkinshaw's term, which runs until Nov. 2, 2027.

Walkinshaw (D-Braddock) defeated Republican challenger Stewart Whitson on Sept. 9, filling the congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D), who died in May.
