FAIRFAX, VA—Virginia Lottery's May 12 Cash 5 drawing happened to fall on Mother's Day, and the game's top prize is $100,000. Well, Maria Sabarre's husband bought eight tickets, all with the same five numbers—and all of them winners. So, knowing he'd just won a cool $800K, he gave the tickets to his wife.

"He said, 'This is your Mother's Day gift,' " the Fairfax woman told lottery officials. ". . .It's surreal. He gave them to me because I just retired."

Her husband chose the numbers, 3-6-9-19-29, at random when he bought the tickets in the Safeway at 12200 Fairfax Towne Center. The Cash 5 drawings are held twice daily, and the odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 278,256.
