City of Fairfax business leaders recognized The Auld Shebeen Irish Pub & Restaurant for its longevity and service to the community.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax business leaders and elected officials presented a plaque to the owners of The Auld Shebeen Irish Pub & Restaurant on Saturday, honoring their 20 years of making memories in Old Town.
“You can hardly come across a person who didn't have a story about Auld Shebeen,” said Tara Borwey, the director of programs management at Fairfax City Economic Development. “People have shared so many wonderful memories with me of the time that they spent here, from their college days to bringing their children.”
One of those people was Mayor Catherine Read, who praised the restaurant for its longevity.

“Twenty years is a long time to have a thriving business, because most restaurants don't make their fifth anniversary,” she said “That's just the fact for the majority of them, but here you are 20 years and your business is thriving. It’'s because you've created a community where people want to make memories here with you.”
Jennifer Rose, executive director of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, joked that she was one of the presidents of the Auld Shebeen Fan Club.

“There's nothing like that beef stew on a cold winter's day, my friend,” she said. “We are thrilled to be celebrating your 20th anniversary.”
Once all the speeches were made, owners Mick Boyle and Dominic Keane shared their thoughts about reaching the 20-year milestone.
“Our pub here is really about family, community and making relationships and friends over the last 20 years. It's been our absolute pleasure,” said Keane, scanning the large crowd gathered at the tables and along the bar.
When asked what was the secret of The Auld Shebeen’s longevity, Boyle replied that he really didn’t know.
“Both Dominic and I work the business,” he said. “It's trying to instill something in our staff to treat people the way they should be treated, the way we want them treated. So, good customer service, being friendly, good food and just being accommodating to all.”
