Democrat Irene Shin Out Raises GOP Opponent Max Fisher In 8th District

HERNDON, VA — Democrat Irene Shin has out-raised her opponent, Republican Max Fisher, in the race to fill the House of Delegates seat in the 8th District, according to the latest campaign finance filing.

Shin's campaign reported on Friday that it received $17,629 between July 1 and Aug. 31, according to the Virginia Public Access Project. By comparison, Fisher's campaign received $5,525 for the same reporting period.

In total, Shin's campaign received $15,657 in cash contributions of more than $100 and $1,972 in cash contributions or less, during the reporting period. Adding that to a starting balance of $31,184 and subtracting $12,856 in expenses, the campaign had an ending balance of $35,957 on Aug. 31.

Shin's top four donations for the reporting period were:


  • $5,000 - Baltimore Washington Construction
  • $1,500 - Virginia Bank PAC
  • $1,000 - Virginia Wine Wholesalers PAC
  • $1,000 - Virginia Beverage Association.

In addition, Mega Investments, MAR-JAC Investments, and Sterling Management Group each contributed $600 to Shin's campaign.

Fisher's campaign received $5,085 in cash contributions more than $100 and $440 in cash contributions of $100 or less, according to VPAP. Adding that to a starting balance of $1,336 and subtracting $5,836 in expenses, the campaign had $1,026 left in the bank on Aug. 31.


Fisher's top four donations for the reporting period were:

  • $3,500 - House Republican Campaign Committee
  • $500 - Glenda Stephens
  • $250 - Greater McLean Republican Women's Club
  • $191 - Sabio4Fairfax

In addition, Lynn Fisher made five donations of $150, $150, $125, $100, and $70 to Max Fisher's campaign, for a total of $595.

This will be the first general election under the recently redrawn General Assembly districts. During the 2023 legislative session, Shin was the delegate representing the old 86th District. The new 8th District covers Herndon, Oak Hill, Franklin Farm, Oakton and Chantilly.

The first absentee ballots for the General Election will be mailed on Friday, Sept. 22, which is also when early voting begins. Early voting will continue through Nov. 4, which is three days before Election Day.
