Early Voting Begins For 2024 Election: What's On Fairfax City Ballots
Early voting in the 2024 general election begins Sept. 20 and runs through Nov. 2. Races on the ballot range from president to city council.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Early voting for the Nov. 5 general election begins on Friday. Virginians will cast ballots to decide who will be the next president and vice president, as well as who will represent them on Capitol Hill.
City of Fairfax residents will vote for candidates running in the mayoral, city council and school board races. The ballot also includes a referendum to amend the Virginia constitution and a public schools bond for Fairfax City voters.
In the 11th congressional district, incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Fairfax) faces Republican challenger Mike Van Meter. The district includes all of Fairfax City and the portions of Fairfax County that are roughly west and south of the Capital Beltway/I-95 corridor. The 11th congressional district is considered solid Democrat in the 2024 Cook Political Report's House Race Ratings.

In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Sen. Timothy Kaine (D) is running against Republican Hung Cao.
Fairfax City voters will be able to cast in-person ballots at City Hall starting Sept. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 2. Polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be two Saturdays (Oct. 29 and Nov. 2) when voters can cast in-person ballots.

Voter Registration: The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. (in-person) and 11:59 p.m. (online). Same day registration is available after this deadline. Voters can check their registration status, register online, check their voting history and find their local precinct by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal.
Mail-In Ballot Deadlines: The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is 5 p. m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Nov. 5 and received by noon on Nov. 8. Ballots can also be dropped off at the ballot drop box at Fairfax City Hall, in-person at the Office of Elections, or the drop box at your voting precinct by 7 p.m. on Nov. 5. Fairfax City Hall is located at 10455 Armstrong St.
Absentee/Early Voting: There are two ways for voters to request an absentee ballot. They can either apply online at the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal or complete an application form and submit it by mail or by email. Voters will need to provide their Social Security number and Virginia driver's license when submitting an application online. Voters will be able to apply for a specific election or to permanently receive mail-in ballots for every election that they are eligible to vote. Voters can track their mail-in ballot and their ballot status online.
