Fairfax GOP Endorses Candidate In Braddock District Supervisor's Race
The Fairfax County Republican Committee endorsed Ken Balbuena as its candidate in the Dec. 9 special election in the Braddock District.

BURKE, VA — On Friday, the Fairfax County Republican Committee formally endorsed Ken Balbuena as its candidate in the Braddock District supervisor race in the Dec. 9 special election.
"The Fairfax County Republican Committee is excited to support the candidacy of Ken Balbuena for Braddock Supervisor,“ FCRC Chair Katie Gorka said. “Ken has already served the community in so many ways, and now he will be a strong voice for lowering taxes, preserving Lake Accotink, and helping to keep Braddock neighborhoods safe and affordable."
Over the years, Balbuena has been active in the community, serving as a civic association president, PTA president, chair of the Fairfax County Public Schools’ Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee. He was also a board member of Visit Fairfax, as well as a member of the Future of Lake Accotink Task Force, and the Fairfax County Consolidated Community Funding Pool Selection Advisory Committee, according to a release.

“I am pleased to have received the Republican endorsement in my race for Braddock District Supervisor," Balbuena said. "My campaign can focus on the sprint to the December 9th special election. I am committed to living out my campaign slogan and promise to put People Before Politics. I will bring the people's voice back to the Board of Supervisors to reassure those we represent that their voices are heard and listened to. My vision for the Braddock District and Fairfax County is that people can live, work, play, and stay in the County. This can only happen through smart fiscal policy that begins with an end to the overburdening on residential taxpayers."
A number of political and community leaders have given Balbuena their endorsement, including Supervisor Pat Herrity (R-Springfield), former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R), former Supervisor John Cook (R-Braddock), former FCPS School Board Member Jeanette Hough, former Catholic School Superintendent Timothy McNiff, former college chief of police Dan Dusseau, and more than a dozen civic leaders from across Fairfax County.

When incumbent Supervisor James Walkinshaw (D-Braddock) defeated Republican challenger Stewart Whitson on Sept. 9 to fill the congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D), who died in May, Walkinshaw's seat on the Fairfax Board of Supervisors became vacant.
Chief Judge Penney S. Azcarate scheduled the special election for Tuesday, Dec. 9, a date that was not fewer than 45 days nor more than 90 days from when the seat became vacant, as specified by the Code of Virginia.
Four Democrats are competing in Saturday's firehouse primary to decide who will be Balbuena's opponent on the Dec. 9 ballot: Rachna Sizemore Heizer, Sabrina Mattin, Ilryong Moon, and April Pavis Shroeder.
The person chosen to represent the Braddock District on Dec. 9 will complete the remainder of Walknshaw's term as supervisor, which runs until Jan. 1, 2028.
