Severe Winter Storm Leads To Closure Of GW Parkway Friday Night
U.S. Park Service will be closing northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway in anticipation of the impending winter storm.

MCLEAN, VA — In anticipation of the severe winter weather that is expected to hit Northern Virginia and the wider Washington-Baltimore region on Friday night, U.S. Park Service will be closing the northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
All northbound lanes between Spout Run in Arlington and the Capital Beltway/I-495 in McLean will close at 7 p.m. on Friday and will remain closed until further notice. The park service will issue a follow-up alert once the northbound lanes of the parkway reopen.
National Weather Service issued a winter storm advisory for the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C., region from 11 p.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Saturday. Heavy snow is expected, with accumulations of up to 4 to 6 inches in some areas.

The winter weather advisory includes the District of Columbia, plus the cities of Culpeper, Falls Church and Alexandra, as well as Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Fauquier and Prince William counties.
Friday's closure will allow work crews time to properly treat and clear the roadway to ensure that drivers will be able to travel safely on the parkway once the lanes reopen.
