Icy, Wintry Mix Across DC, VA Disrupting Christmas Eve Travel
Snow and sleet dusted parts of the DC metro Tuesday as highway trucks loaded with materials patrol roads in case icy conditions develop.
VIRGINIA — A light wintry mix continued to move its way east of I-95 on Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. This will make holiday travel more difficult.
Freezing rain and sleet will cover the greater Baltimore-Washington, DC area before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with a chance of rain between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to NWS.
There’s an 80 percent chance of precipitation, but little or no ice accumulation is expected, the weather service reports. A daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

There will be a bit of snow or a wintry mix in the region from Boston and New York City to Philadelphia and perhaps even Washington, D.C., for a time on Tuesday, according to the AccuWeather forecast.
Enough snow and/or ice will occur from the central Appalachians to the mid-Atlantic coast and southern New England to make roads slippery for a time. Heavier snow will fall from northern Michigan to northern New York and northern New England.

With temperatures hanging in the 20s, light accumulations have been reported on elevated and untreated surfaces, the weather service says. But, the precipitation is expected to move out of the area late in the morning, with the temperatures rising past 32 around midday.
Trucks are staged, loaded with materials, and patrolling to treat I-95 and other state-maintained roads in the Fredericksburg area this morning, in case icing develops from freezing rain, according to VDOT.

- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47.
- Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
- Saturday: A chance of rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Saturday Night:: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
- Sunday Night: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
- Monday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
