FAIRFAX CITY, VA — As if getting elected to the Fairfax City Council didn’t make 2024 special enough for Anthony Amos, he decided to cap the year off by getting engaged.

“I have a lot to be grateful for this year,” Amos said, in a Dec. 27 Facebook post. “God truly blessed me in many profound ways that I could have never anticipated. Walking alongside me through the trials and accomplishments was the strongest, most incredible person I have ever met. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. I’m very lucky.”

Following tradition, Amos got down on one knee to ask Marena Monterrosa to marry him. He then slipped an engagement ring on her finger.

"The greatest gift of all this year was seeing our family get a bit bigger," Amos said on Facebook. "I love you, Mare Mont. Let’s do the 'for life' thing."

Monterrosa and Amos first met in Hawaii in 2018. The couple has set Sept. 20, 2025 as a tentative date for their wedding ceremony.
