NoVA, DC Labor Day Weekend Weather: Mostly Sunny Days Ahead

VIRGINIA — After several days of rainy weather, many people may be wondering if they'll have to reconsider Labor Day plans.

Despite a recent uptick in coronavirus cases across the United States, millions of Americans are likely to move ahead with Labor Day celebrations this year, marking the holiday with outdoor barbecues, town festivals and family camping trips.

While celebrating safely is paramount, Mother Nature also holds the power to make or break a perfect outdoor holiday celebration.

Will Mother Nature be on our side this Labor Day weekend? We may actually be in luck, according to the most recent forecast for DC and northern Virginia on Thursday morning.

As you head home from work Friday evening, expect clear skies, with a low of 56 degrees. The rest of the weekend will look similar:

Saturday: Expect partly cloudy skies throughout the day, with a high of 79 degrees and a low of 57 degrees. This day may be your best bet to light up the grill or take a dip in the pool. Otherwise, check out Arlington's Labor Day Weekend Festival of the Arts.

Sunday: It will be mostly cloudy all day with a 27 percent chance of rain. The high is expected to be 78 degrees and the low 65 degrees. Maybe you could head into D.C. for the National Symphony Orchestra Labor Day Concert.

Monday: The weather will be mostly cloudy throughout the day, with a 5 percent chance of rains, and a high temperature of 81 degrees and a low of 66 degrees. Looks like one more day to enjoy the outdoors before summer ends. If you'd rather stay inside, you can always try Free Movie Monday at Tysons.

Want more reassurance? The National Weather Service forecast calls for something much of the same, though some projections look a bit brighter.

  • Friday: Sunny, with a high temperature of 76 degrees.
  • Saturday: Sunny and nice, with a high near 80 degrees.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, with an expected high temperature near 83 degrees.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, temperature of 83 degrees.
