Patch Star Local Student Kenny Phan 'Always There To Lend Hand'

Fairfax, Virginia — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University

How do you know the star local student?

Kenny Phan has been an active volunteer for the Asian American/Vietnamese community since January 2020. Kenny Phan has regularly served food for the low-income people at Woodbridge; and the homeless at Bailey’s Community Shelters, Falls Church, Virginia. In past year, whenever we launch a charity event, such as Fundraising for the Ukraine or Victims of Hurricane/Earthquake; Kenny Phan was always there to lend us a hand for setup, cleanup and serve people. While volunteering, Kenny Phan is a reliable volunteer who takes charge, and he is able to predict incoming tasks. He helps direct others to keep his tasks and the operation running smoothly. He interacts positively with different populations and is always welcoming and polite. Kenny Phan has remarkable resilience, and interpersonal skills. He is also demonstrated strong leadership potential during his tasks. He is an external president of Asian American Community Center (AACC).

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Being a kind, generous and humble person, Kenny Phan does not want to talk about himself or how much he has contributed to the community. However, Asian American/Vietnamese community could not have many successful events without the wonderful support from volunteers like him. We feel so blessed to join hands with him in our common efforts to make people's lives better and build a stronger community together. We strongly recommend Kenny Phan because we are very thankful for his commitment and benevolence, and we look forward to work with him for many more years.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Kenny Phan has received the Community Youth Development Award winner on October 2023.
