Reggae On The Lake Returns To Reston Saturday As Fundraising Concert
Reggae on the Lake returns to Lake Anne Plaza for its second year, but this time it's raising money for Parkinson's research.
RESTON, VA — After the success of last year's first Reggae on the Lake festival, the event's organizers decided to bring it back to Lake Anne Plaza in Reston for a second year. However, this time the festival has a greater purpose than just enjoying Reggae music. It's raising money for Parkinson's research.
Reston Realtor Ramon Pardo originally came up with the idea for last year's festival after contacting the well-known Reggae band Culture to perform at his wedding in Jamaica.
Inspired by the response to last year's event, Pardo and his team at Terra Properties launched Terra Gives Back, a 501(c)3 charity. The nonprofit has partnered with the Michael J Fox Foundation for raise money for Parkinson's research. The cause was chosen because someone close to the the Terra Properties team was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's, according to Pardo.

Terra Gives Back is accepting donations via its website and during the festival on Saturday. The charity will also be selling raffle tickets to win a free, all expenses paid trip to a luxury resort in Jamaica. The raffle tickets go for $50 a piece and all of the proceeds go directly to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The organizers' goal is to raise $25,000 for Parkinson's research through donations and raffle ticket sales.
Multi-Grammy Award winner Third World, which is on its 50th anniversary tour, will headline Saturday's festival.
