New Bakery Latest Business To Bet On Kamp Washington
A new bakery and cafe opened a Fairfax City location on Wednesday, serving fresh food, baked goods and quality coffee.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Tatte Bakery & Cafe took a different approach to celebrating the grand opening of its new location in Fairfax City on Wednesday. Rather than having a ribbon-cutting ceremony, city officials and business leaders helped the bakery's staff to cut a garland to mark the occasion.
"We really try to focus on being able to make sure that we're bringing a gathering place for people to enjoy," Tatte district manager Katie Mooney said. "It's really important for us to have a community so people can come in here."
Tatte is a scratch kitchen, which means that customers will be able to order fresh food throughout the day, according to Mooney.

"Every single day, our chefs are preparing," she said. "They're dicing chicken in the back. They're making all of our dressings fresh in the back. On top of that, our bakery does a phenomenal job of being able to have delicious croissants, Kouign-amanns, muffins, and cheesecakes."

Mayor Catherine Read, who attended Wednesday's garland cutting, described Tatte as the type of businesses the City of Fairfax aspires to attract.
"We understand that the future of the city is small, urban, walkable places where people feel a sense of community," she said. "I look at all the tiled walls and the design of this place and recognize that this is not what we usually have in the City of Fairfax, but they believed in the promise of this location."
Tatte Bakery & Cafe is located in the Kamp Washington Shopping Center at 11040 Main St., Suite A. The bakery's hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
The mayor credited Fairfax City Economic Development and city staff who helped to develop the Kamp Washington Small Area Plan, for attracting businesses like Tatte to the city's westend. This includes the impending openings of Shake Shack and the California Fish Grill Casual Kitchen in Kamp Washington Shopping Center.
"They're rolling the dice, assuming that we are going to deliver on what we said we're going to build here," Read said.
Tatte is just the latest food establishment rolling the dice and betting on Kamp Washington. Within the last year or so, Blazin Chicken & Gyro, The Alley boba tea cafe, Haraz Yemeni Coffee, Sushi Friends Hashi and KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot have all opened locations in Kamp Washington.
"This is how it always works," Read said. "Shake Shack is next door, the fish grill is across the parking lot. Once you start to get a certain type of business, the other ones come."
Location was one of the determining factors of why Tatte decided to open a bakery and cafe in Kamp Washington, according to Mooney.
"We really saw the fact that it was a community," she said. "It's a crossroads. You can think about it being a huge area, but it is an area where you can connect the neighborhoods. It's really important for us to be a part of that, and the beginning parts of that, because that's exactly who we are."
