Shake Shack, Tatte Bakery & Cafe Coming To Fairfax City
The former home of Just Tires in Kamp Washington is being refitted for a popular burger joint and bakery chain started in Boston.

FAIRFAX, VA — Construction is currently underway at the Kamp Washington Shopping Center that will bring two new restaurants to Fairfax City — Steak Shack and Tatte Bakery & Cafe.
In 2024, the Fairfax City Board of Architectural Review approved a request by shopping center owners GRI-Regency Centers to renovate the façade of the old Just Tires location at the Fairfax Boulevard and Main Street intersection.
Shake Shack will occupy the area of the building where Just Tires’ garages were located, with the offices and waiting area of the former occupant serving as home to the new bakery.

While Shake Shack has not announced its opening date for its Fairfax City restaurant, a sign in the Tatte Bakery & Cafe window says that it would be opening this fall.
The Kamp Washington location will be the sixth bakery Tatte has opened in Virginia. It already has two locations in Alexandria, two in Arlington County and one in Reston.
This is how Tatte Bakery & Cafe describes itself on its website:
“Tzurit Or, founder, pastry chef, and the creative force behind Tatte, started Tatte Bakery seventeen years ago in her home kitchen, selling her creations at the Copley Square farmers market in Boston. For Tzurit, building a bakery of her own was about more than just cultivating a thriving business; it was a way to create a sense of home and community while starting a new life as an immigrant to the United States. Her vision for Tatte was humble in origin- grounded in a simple mission to bring people together around great food and pastries while providing a deep sense of comfort and belonging.
“Today, a passionate and diverse team of chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, cooks, baristas, and café staff brings Tatte to life in neighborhoods throughout Greater Boston, Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. Even as we grow, our commitment to each other is to own the smallest details, maintain the highest standards, and hold fast to our shared mission: To Inspire, Care for, and Nurture life. Every Day.”
This is how the Shake Shack describes itself on its website:
“Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in Manhattan to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. The cart was quite the success, with Shack fans lined up daily for three summers.
“An instant neighborhood fixture, Shake Shack welcomes people from all over the city, country and world who gathered together to enjoy fresh, simple, high-quality versions of the classics in a majestic setting. The rest, as they say, is burger history.
“With its fresh, simple, high-quality food at a great value, Shake Shack is a fun and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal.
“We’re known for delicious burgers, chicken, hot dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine, and more.”
