Wal-Mart Mini-Store Coming to VCU Campus

As part of a pilot program, Wal-Mart is bringing its fifth "Walmart on Campus" to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus will soon be home to a 4,100-square-foot Wal-Mart.

As part of a pilot program, the world’s largest retailer will open a “Wal-Mart on Campus” in late 2014 or early 2015, according to a news release. Similar stores have popped up at the University of Arkansas, Arizona State University, Georgia Tech and the University of Missouri.

The store will be housed on the first floor of a seven-story building currently under construction at 912 W. Grace Street. The building, owned by VCU Real Estate, will also include classrooms and administrative offices. VCU said the Wal-Mart on Campus will employ about 10 people.
