What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2025 In Fairfax City
The Thanksgiving holiday will prompt closures around Fairfax City, and some will continue into Friday.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, Nov. 27 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.
Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 28 for Black Friday, making it a four-day weekend.
If you're looking to work up an appetite ahead of your Thanksgiving feast, why not take part in the Fairfax Turkey Trot 2025? The trot starts promptly at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The 4-mile course is located in the Mantua neighborhood. All proceeds benefit Britepaths.

Here are all the openings and closings to know around Fairfax City for Thanksgiving on Nov. 27 and Black Friday on Nov. 28.
Fairfax City government offices: Closed at 12 noon on Wednesday and will be closed on Nov. 27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 27 and 28.
Fairfax County Public Schools: FCPS schools and offices are closed Nov. 26 to 28.
Community centers: Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services community centers will be closed Nov. 27 to 30. Normal operations will resume on Dec. 1.
Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Circuit Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and remain closed Nov. 27 and 28.
DMV Select Services: The office at Fairfax City Hall closed at 12 noon on Wednesday and will remain closed on Nov. 27 and 28.
DMV: Virginia DMV locations will be closed Nov. 27 to 29. Some services are online at dmv.virginia.gov.
Fairfax Museum & Visitor Center: Closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
Historic Blenheim: Closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
CUE Bus: No service on Nov. 27. Modified weekday service on Nov. 28.
Fairfax Connector: Sunday service will run on Nov. 27. The only routes that operate on Sundays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. A Saturday schedule will run on Nov. 28. The routes that operate on Saturdays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 610, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 672, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Additional routes operating on a weekday schedule on Nov. 28 are 306, 660 and 662. The Fairfax Connector Transit Stores and the Customer Service Call Center are closed on Nov. 27 and open on Nov. 28.
Library: Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Nov. 27 and 28.
Metro: On Nov. 27, Metrorail will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight on a special reduced holiday service schedule at all stations. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. All MetroAccess subscription trips will be canceled, but customers can make a separate reservation to travel on the holiday.
Post offices: Closed on Nov. 27.
Recreation centers: Rec centers are open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 27 and open regular hours on Nov. 28.
Fairfax City Trash and recycling: No trash collection in Fairfax City on Nov. 27. Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday, Nov. 28. Yard waste collection may be delayed Nov. 25-30.
Fairfax County Trash and recycling: Fairfax County collection customers will have no changes in service during Thanksgiving week. Private collection customers should look for schedule changes from their hauler. The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are closed on Nov. 27 and open on Nov. 28.
Virginia ABC: Virginia ABC stores will be closed on Nov. 27 and reopen for regular service on Nov. 28. Stores will open early at 8 a.m. on Nov. 28 and close at regular times.
