Cooling Center Open This Week in Falls Church

Trying to beat the heat? Temps are expected to "feel like" more than 100 degrees.

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- The cooling center at the Jim Moran Community Center in Winter Hill Apartments (330 S. Virginia Ave. #B, see map below) will be open to the community this week as long as temperatures are above 90 degrees, the City announced Monday.

The operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cooling center serves as an air-conditioned public facility where people may go for relief during periods of extreme heat. The Winter Hill Emergency Heating and Cooling Center is part of the City government's Emergency Operations Plan. The site serves the City's vulnerable populations and is open to both Winter Hill residents and the surrounding community.

The Falls Church Housing Corporation (FCHC) owns the Winter Hill Apartments. FCHC, an affordable housing provider in northern Virginia, is committed to preserving and increasing affordable multi-family rental housing by serving unmet needs, promoting northern Virginia, and helping to ensure low- to moderate-income families and seniors have housing they can afford.
