CSC Chairman Announced Plans to Retire by 2012
Laphen gave no reason for his retirement.

Michael W. Laphen, CEO and chairman of Falls Church-based CSC announced his retirement Tuesday without offering a reason behind the move.
Laphen, 61, will stay on with the company until a successor is named but no longer than Oct. 31, 2012 as stated in a release Tuesday. A search committee has been formed to find a successor.
“I began my professional career with CSC in 1977, and I am proud to have been a part of the Company’s growth and evolution into a premier, global IT services company,” Laphen said in the release. “CSC’s dedicated employees and management team have put CSC on a solid footing, and I am confident that the company is well positioned for its next phase of growth and development. I look forward to working with the Board of Directors and my successor to ensure a seamless transition.”

According to the Washington Post, under Laphen’s leadership, in 2008 CSC decided to relocate its corporate headquarters from El Segundo, Calif., to Falls Church. With about 96,000 employees, CSC specializes in providing technology-enabled business solutions and services.
