FALLS CHURCH, VA — The new school year is quickly approaching, and families are available to help families prepare for the first day in for students in Falls Church City Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools.
The first day of school for most students in Falls Church and Fairfax County is Monday, Aug. 21.
Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

- Aug. 21: First day of school
- Sept. 1-4: Labor Day holiday break
- Sept. 25: Yom Kippur observance with school in session
- Sept. 28-29: Middle and high school conferences
- Sept. 29: Afternoon teacher work day
- Oct. 9: Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day holiday
- Oct. 26-27: No school for students/teacher work day/professional development/parent-teacher conferences
- Nov. 10: Veterans Day holiday
- Nov. 22-24: Thanksgiving holiday break
- Dec. 18-Jan. 1: Winter break
- Jan. 15: Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday
- Jan. 22: Teacher work day
- Feb. 19: Presidents' Day holiday
- March 25-29: Spring break
- April 1: Teacher work day/professional development
- April 10: Eid al Fitr observance with school in session
- April 24: Professional development/early release for students
