Falls Church Artist Earns Latest Plein Air Festival Award

FALLS CHURCH, VA — An artist and instructor affiliated with Falls Church Arts was named Best New Artist at the En Plein Air Texas Festival in late October.

Rajendra KC, a DC area watercolor instructor and artist, was among 35 participating "en plein air" artists from 17 states, according to Falls Church Arts. Plein air typically involves artists painting scenes outdoors. At the Texas festival, artists competed at 18 ranches in the festival area, where spectators watched the artists in action.

Born in Nepal, Rajendra was taught at the Sirjana Contemporary Art Gallery in Kathmandu, Nepal and lived in Nepal for 35 years. His paintings have been exhibited in Nepal, Japan and India. His art is also part of collections in the U.S., Japan, UK, France, Canada, Germany and India. He has lived in the U.S. since 2007 and now has a studio where he lives in Falls Church.

In Falls Church, he is known as a skilled art instructor who helps students improve technique in multiple styles of painting. Rajendra often works with students of different levels in the same class. Aside from serving as an instructor for Falls Church Arts, he paints at the Saturday Falls Church Farmers Market. He has won Falls Church Arts' own Falls Church Plein Air Festival, including best in show, people’s choice and artists’ choice as well as other plein air festivals on the East Coast.
