Falls Church Cartoonist Brings Talents to Drawing Workshop

Free cartooning workshop first for Kevin Rechin

Creating animated characters was in Kevin Rechin’s blood from the very beginning.

The son of a professional cartoonist, Rechin followed his father and has had his characters just about everywhere. Thursday, Rechin will teach a group of aspiring cartoonist how to create their own characters and story lines.

“This is my first workshop so I’ll make it up as I go,” Rechin said.

Rechin will run the free workshop from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at . Participants are responsible for their own materials. Rechin has worked for several small newspapers and also served as a staff artist for USA Today. The Falls Church resident’s work has been viewed in a lot of places over the years. He was responsible for drawing Washington Nationals baseball players for an advertisement for the D.C. Lottery and he designed a superhero for the bedroom of two young boys appearing on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition.”

Rechin said he has never had trouble creating characters. He said his daily life has yielded several animated characters.

“I pretty much draw from my own experiences,” Rechin said. “It’s pretty natural.”
