Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 20

1. Library Story Hour for kids ages 2 to 5-years-old at the Mary Riley Styles Library at 10:30 a.m.
2. The City of Falls Church annual Halloween Carnival for infants through 5^th graders is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St.  Entry fee is $2 per child, ages 2 and up.  Adults and children under 2 are free.  Activities are planned from 6-7 p.m. for infants through 2^nd graders and from 7:30-8:30 p.m. for 3^rd through 5^th graders.  The live Creepy Creature Show is scheduled at 6:30 and 8 p.m. for all ages.
3. On this day in 1975, the Supreme Court rules teachers could spank their pupils after warning.
4. On this day in 2009, European astronomers discovered 32 extrasolar planets, or exoplanets - planets that orbit a star other than the Sun.
5. If today is your birthday, you share it with baseball great Mickey Mantle (80-years-old) and rapper Snoop Dogg (39-years-old). Happy birthday!
