Public Utilities Open House Moved to Saturday

After rain cancelled the City of Falls Church’s Public Utility Open House Sept. 24, the city will now hold the event on Oct. 1. The event includes kid-friendly activities for the entire family to enjoy, including taking pictures on heavy-duty equipment. Visitors are invited to watch the operations division staff demonstrate the making of water connections, repairing water main pipes under pressure, leak detection techniques and more.

92-year-old Volunteer Honored for Her Work

Rebeca Sanchez was honored with the first Integrate (Engage) Award (presented by Volunteer Fairfax) for almost a decade of volunteer service with the Hispanic Committee of Virginia. Originally from Peru, Sanchez began volunteering with the Hispanic Committee in 2003 where she helps with administrative tasks, such as answering the phones, greeting clients, filing, and photocopying. In 2010 alone, she volunteered more than 400 hours of her time.

General Dynamics Awarded Modular Artillery Charge System Contract

On Tuesday, the United States Army has awarded Falls Church-based General Dynamics an $8.6 million contract for the Modular Artillery Charge System. Production work will be performed at General Dynamics' facility in Camden, Ark. Work will be completed by September 2013.
