Oak Street Bridge Replacement Prompts Extended Road Closure In Falls Church

Part of S. Oak Street in Falls Church will be closed through late 2023 for a bridge replacement project, according to VDOT.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — An extended road closure will start Monday to accommodate the South Oak Street bridge replacement over Tripps Run in the City of Falls Church.

S. Oak Street will be closed to through traffic between Timber Lane and S. Lee Street, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The closure will last through late 2023.

Vehicles will be able to reach properties on S. Oak Street between Timber Lane and S. Lee Street but will not be able to travel past the point of bridge replacement in either direction. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution in active work zones and look for new traffic patterns.

The detour route for northbound S. Oak Street: will be Timber Lane, Parker Avenue, S. Spring Street and W. Broad Street (Route 7) back to S. Oak Street.

The detour route for southbound S. Oak Street will be South Lee Street, W. Broad Street (Route 7), S. Spring Street, Parker Avenue and Timber Lane back to S. Oak Street.

Pedestrian access will be maintained along S. Oak Street between Timber Lane and S. Lee Street.

The bridge, built in 1953 with a 10-ton weight limit, will be replaced. The new bridge will not have posted weight restrictions and will have concrete foundation, walls and deck. The project is expected to be completed in late 2023. The $2.4 million project has state and federal funding, including State of Good Repair funds for bridge work.
